News and Events.

We are an emerging ministry. Although much work has been done to support the homeless, such as running past soup kitchens, equipting the local homeless with survival back packs, giving away food and groceries, helping with monetary needs, and ministering to the spiritual needs, we realize there needs to be more, much more done to help the homeless. The need is just too great.

Here in the the local area of Hampton and Newport News there are a few night time shelters, but the homeless must leave very early in the morning. Also, there are many prohibited from going due to ongoing addictions or past circumstances. Many shelters are also overcrowded, and therefore have to say no to unlucky few who didn't get in soon enough. There are some homeless here on the Peninsula who are still sleeping out in the cold. In addition to this problem, there are very few day time areas where the homeless are allowed to be. They can go to the library, to the community centers-if they are a member- and they go for lunch and/or dinner at various local churches different days of the week, but there is really no place they can call their own, where they can leave their belongings, where they can just hang out, relax, feel loved, and feel like they belong to something, like having a sense of family and community. So many times the homeless and the poor are rejected, oppresed, and treated unfairly, simply for having no money. People are quick to judge them, overlook them, and discount them.

With the economy becomingly increasingly fragile, we are likely to see more homeless around us. It could even be one of us. All of us deserve a chance regardless of past mistakes. For these reasons our heart has become increasingly burdened to do more. Our vision at this point in time is to develop a day time homeless shelter where all our welcome and can receive a touch from God.

Because we are an emerging ministry we have many needs and we are only in the beginning stages of establishing this ministry. We feel God has called us to this cause. He loves us all so much and wants to see all his children taken care of, blessed, and with the opportunity to know his love.

This page will keep you up-to date on our developments. Most recent news will be at the top.

God speaks on the importance of knowing his Word and living his Word, 02-13-11.

This past Sunday Adam shared his testimony about how God saved him from drowning and put a call on his life (see video recently posted), and he did a little preaching. Adam's message was related to how important it is to know God's Word so you won't be mislead and fooled by the Enemy. Read more: Recap of February 13, 2011

With plenty of time on their hands, many homeless students of the Mini-Bible College have committed much time to bible study, discipleship, and training for the ministry. Please pray for their continued success.

We are now meeting on Sundays from 8Am to 4PM at 128 32nd Street, Newport News, VA. This is a place where the homeless can get out of the cold for a while, have a chance to relax, socialize, grab a drink or a bite to eat, and be ministered to. Here we meet with the homeless, provide backpacks and food, minister, pray with, and encourage the homeless.

The Amory can not be used for day time shelter despite support from the community, 11.24.09

We originally had ideas to use the Armory in Hampton for a homeles shelter, but it just needed too much work to be up to code and we couldn't use it.

This was the follow-up to the original article written by Tamara Dietrich of the Daily press, which made reference to the fact that 73% of local residents supported the idea of the armory building being made intoa homeless shelter.
